This person was also known as JIM. In 1910 he came from Sc otland by ship caring for four (4) Clydesdale horses. Hi s were the only ones that did not collick. On arrival in C anada he travelled to Calgary, Alberta and upon meeting a a cquaintance from Scotland, Jim Findlay, he was offered a jo b fixing furniture for Neilson Furniture. Later, he starte d his own delivery service using a horse drawn delivery dre y.

Being a furniture carpenter by trade, he built a house on t he 40th Avenue SW, Calgary, next to the Elbow River. He ne ver lived there but in 1913 took up a homestead at Benton , Alberta. In addition to working his land there and build ing a home for his family, Jim rented the Millar farm sout h of Benton which he also homesteaded for two (2) or thre e (3) years. In 1922 the Jim left the homestead, moving hi s family, to sell shoes at Ingram Shoe Store in Calgary . He worked selling shoes for five (5) years. In 1927 H e started selling food products for J.H. Heinz Co. where h e remained until his retirement in 1947.

In having met Jim Findlay, Jim Reid met his sister Mary wh o he married in 1913. They were married at a house locate d at 321 - 2nd Avenue W., Calgary, Alberta. As of 1994 thi s location is the parking lot of EauClaire Market.

Jim's hobbies were gardening and carpentry. He built schoo lhouses around Benton and area.

He is buried in Queen's Park Cemetary, Calgary, Alberta i n the Reid plot.
